Prof Brendan Mackey is the Hub’s Director of Research and has responsibility for the Hub’s management. Emeritus Prof Henry Nix has the roles of (a) chairing the proposed advisory committee (see details below), (b) promoting research linkages within ANU, and (c) mentoring student scholarship recipients. Charles Tambiah serves as Senior Research Facilitator.
Dr Sandy Berry is employed for three years as a researcher fellow under the current ARC Linkage grant. Mark Zembecki is employed as a senior research associate under the ACR Linkage grant, investigating Traditional Ecological Knowledge and the conservation status of native mammals in Northern Australia.
There are currently two APAI PhD students working on the ARC Linkage project: Renee Visser who is working on the conservation role of dingoes in trophic regulation; and Peter Dostine who is working on the ecology and conservation of the Flock Bronzewing. In 2006, two PhD students will commence on ANU scholarships: Peter Lee, who will be examining use of remotely sensed data to map vegetations structure in the W.A. goldfields woodlands; and Susan Gould, who will be investigating the impact of bauxite mining on bird habitat on Cape York Peninsula.
